What is a EICR?

A EICR is an inspection and associated testing to check whether an electrical installation is in a satisfactory condition for continued service. On completion of the necessary inspection and testing, an Electrical Installation Condition Report will be issued detailing any observed damage, deterioration, defects, dangerous conditions and any non-compliance’s with the present-day safety standard which might give rise to danger.

Are 1st Fix Electrics fully qualified electricians?

Yes, we are fully qualified electricians with certification to prove it. We also belong to a number of professional bodies that have high standards to prove that we can do what we say we do.

We also provide training to apprentices to help them to become qualified as an electrician. We take this very seriously so the work is to a high standard.

As a Landlord, how often should I have my wiring checked?

If you own an HMO (House in Multiple Occupation), you have a legal obligation to have a periodic inspection carried out on your property every five years. If your property is not an HMO, then you are not legally obliged to get your installation tested on a periodic basis. However, we recommend that you have a full periodic inspection carried out every five years or on change of tenancy – whichever comes first. Our guidance is based on legal obligations set out in The Landlords and Tenant Act (1985).

How fast can I get some one to do work?

Our response time depends on our workload, but we’ll get there as fast as possible. Our normal process is to contact you by phone first to understand what you require. We will then if necessary come to your location and provide you with a quotation based on materials and labor charges.

Are the parts that you use guaranteed?

All our work is guaranteed for a year. All our  materials we use are guaranteed for a year but the manufacturer on most of our parts offer longer guarantees because we use quality materials.

How long does it take to check my wiring?

This all depends on how big the property/installation is, and how many consumer units you have. We can test a 3-4 bedroom house with around 10-15 circuits in a day (roughly 6-7 hours).

Will you take on any size job?

We are a medium sized company but thrive on small, medium or large jobs. We have a plethora of skilled and highly recommended trades we work along side so this helps us to take on the bigger jobs and have them run as smoothly as possible and finished to a high standard.

What is an RCD?

An RCD, or residual current device, is a life-saving device which is designed to prevent you from getting a fatal electric shock if you touch something live, such as a bare wire. It can also provide some protection against house fires. RCDs offer a level of personal protection that ordinary fuses and circuit-breakers cannot provide.

We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your time and consideration.
